Oil Name:
Cinnamon Leaf
Botanical Name
Cinnamomun zeqlanicum
Description
The Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil comes from the same rather tall (50 ft) tropical evergreen cassia tree as does the Cinnamon ground powder, bark or sticks, however, the Essential Leaf Oil has a grand reputation as a medicinal oil and not as a food enhancer or spice. Its aroma is generally sweet and spicy with a woodsy undertone scent. It conjures up warm memories of Christmastime for many people. It is an energetic scent that lingers in your memory long after it has dissipated into the past. It has a “longing” aroma, if there is such a place in ones mind’s-scent. The inner bark of new shoots of the Cinnamon Tree is gathered every two years & sold as cinnamon sticks but the Leaves are more readily acquired. The Greeks, Romans & Ancient Egyptians, used Cinnamon Oil. The Egyptians imported it from China in 2000 BC as people of India & China valued its medicinal properties literally for centuries. History has it that the same Nero who Fiddled while Rome burnt down burned a year’s supply of Cinnamon at the funeral for his wife. Strange man, but an interesting tale. Trading history claims that “Finding Cinnamon” was a primary motive for world exploration in the 15th and 16th centuries. For these essential glimpses into history if not for the medicinal value reported for more than 4,000 years, treat yourself to some Cinnamon Leaf in your blend.
