Essential Oil Inventory
Oil Name:
Cedarwood
Botanical Name
Cedrus atlantica
Description
There is no relationship between Cedarwood and Cedarleaf except for the similarity in the name. Cedarwood is more economical and relates to different symptoms. By far the most interesting fact about Cedarwood is that it might just be the oldest essential oil used by the Ancient Egyptians in the mummification process. There are only four true Cedar Tree species; the Cedrus Atlantica is the one used to produce the essential oil. The Cedar is a pyramid-shaped evergreen tree, up to 130 ft. high. Its strongly aromatic wood contains a high percentage of essential oil. Today its rich, woody, popular masculine scent is warming, physically cleansing & emotionally grounding. Cedarwood essential oil has a refreshing, pleasant, woody smell. The North American Indians used Cedarwood for respiratory infections. It blends well with many other essential oils, however, some insist on keeping it a solo aroma because it is such a rich complete aroma.
